Want to really make your skincare work to help reverse the signs of skin aging? Then start getting friendly with AHA – Alpha Hydroxy Acids – that is.
Ok, I get it, using acids sounds a little bit scary, but trust me, using AHA’s is one of the best things you can do for you skin. AHA’s take on lots of different forms, L-ascorbic acid, Hyaluronic acid, and Lactic acid being among some of the most popular ingredients in skincare. Glycolic acid is one of my all-time favourites. I’ve been using it religiously for the last couple of years and I can honestly say I’ve seen a big difference.
I’ve tried quite a few different products, and I swear by Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme (in fact, there are a host of Nip + Fab products that are well worth exploring). They also come in at a fabulously purse-friendly price point – $14.99 for 60 pre-soaked pads.
So, what is glycolic acid? Think of glycolic acid as your best exfoliator ever. With regular use, glycolic acid helps slough off dead skin cells to reveal gorgeous glowing skin and a smooth even complexion. As we age, our skin becomes slower at cell turnover, which results in dull, lacklustre skin. Glycolic acid helps increase cell turnover, meaning younger looking skin. It can also help lighten skin discolorations such as sun spots and even help with conditions such as acne.
Nip + Fab’s Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme are marketed as, well “Extreme”. Don’t let this put you off. They actually contain a modest five percent glycolic acid – it’s a high enough percentage to do its job, but it’s certainly not “extreme.” (Compare to spa strength peels that can often contain up to 20 percent, and higher.) They also contain lactic acid, salicylic acid, and hyaluronic acid, which all help boost the effects of the glycolic acid and make this product an amazing skincare all-rounder.
As pre-moistened pads, they are a doddle to use too. Just take a pad after cleansing, (they come in tubs of 60) swipe and you are done. I use these about four times a week at night. If you have super sensitive skin, you might want to try one a week, and then gradually build your skin’s tolerance up.
Never heard of Nip + Fab? It’s an awesome brand created by London-based beauty entrepreneur Maria Hatzistefanis of legendary skincare brand Rodial.
