Clinique goodies

I’ve long been a fan of Clinique. In fact, it’s one of the very first luxury beauty brands I tried.

In my late teens, early twenties I used Clinique’s 3-Step system religiously. As time went on I started exploring other brands, but I always without fail have some Clinique products to hand. It’s a failsafe brand that always delivers.

I was running low on basic skincare, so I decided to re-visit the brand and try some old favourites. I purchased a full-size Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, Liquid Facial Soap Mild, Clarifying Lotion 1.0, plus scored freebie samples of Moisture Surge Facial Spray, All About Eyes Serum, Take the Day Off Makeup Remover, and Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +.

Here’s a mini review of each product:

Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

I’ve never actually tried Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief moisturizer before, despite the fact that it’s a cult classic that’s been around for years. I purchased it in a kit, which included a free full-size Clinique All About Eyes Eye Serum and a travel size Moisture Surge Face Spray (reviews below).

I love this moisturizer! No matter how much I moisturize, or how much water I drink, my skin is always on the dehydrated side. This made it feel super nourished, without any heaviness or residue that you often get with super rich moisturizers. It just sank into my skin instantly and left it feeling beautifully smooth. Texture wise, it’s a wonderful gel-like texture that is super light. A little goes a long way too, so I can see this jar lasting quite a while.

Clinique All About Eyes Eye Serum

I actually rarely use a dedicated eye product, I just tend to use what every product I’m using around the eye area. Call me a cynic, but I just feel eye products are a marketing ploy to get you to buy more.

I do like this product however, the roller-ball style applicator makes it feel super cooling on the skin, which is wonderfully refreshing if you wake up feeling bleary eyed one morning. But, beyond the cooling application, I just don’t really see much benefit, so probably wouldn’t go out of my way to repurchase this again.

Moisture Surge Face Spray

I’ve tried this spray in a variety of settings and find it works wonderfully as a primer – especially if you are using a very matte makeup – and is fabulous as a refreshing hydrating spray used throughout the day too. I used this on a recent long-haul flight and my skin truly benefited from it. After a long red-eye flight, it felt lovely and refreshing on the skin.

Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Mild

Love, love, love this facial soap. Lovely and sudsy, no overpowering smell and removes every scrap of makeup. Don’t be put off by the word “soap.” This isn’t a soap in the traditional sense, it’s a liquid cleanser that leaves skin feeling super clean. Comes in a great pump style bottle to avoid any unnecessary wastage. I find one pump of product is sufficient to remove light makeup, two pumps and even the most stubborn eye makeup is lifted away.

Clarifying Lotion 1.0

I used to be a die-hard fan of Clinique’s Clarifying Lotion 2, but as I learnt more about skincare and ingredients I became increasingly wary of using an alcohol based toner – and Clinique’s Clarifying Lotion 2 has a lot of alcohol. So, this time around, I decided to plump for the Clarifying Lotion 1.0., which replaced Clinique’s Clarifying Lotion Mild.

It’s designed for dry skin. It’s alcohol free and also has Salicylic acid – an ingredient that works to exfoliate the skin. The base is witch hazel. That’s fine for my normal skin, but I would caution anyone with dry or sensitive skin using this, even though this is what it is marketed for.

I actually really enjoy using this. I don’t think it’s award-winning or ground-breaking by any stretch, but if you’re looking for a good day-to-day toner to refresh the skin and prep it for serums and moisturisers, then this does the trick.

Take the Day Off Makeup Remover

I rarely use a dedicated eye makeup remover as, unless I’m wearing really heavy eye-makeup, my regular facial cleanser does the job. Using this was all my eye makeup remover fears. It stung my eyes like crazy and left a horrible greasy film. Yes, it removed every scrap of makeup on my eyes, but it was a super unpleasant experience.

Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +

What’s not to love about this moisturizer? It’s part of Clinique’s core collection and has won a host of industry awards. A great all-rounder that makes skin feel comfortable. I find this moisturizer also works wonderfully as a carrier moisturizer. I use it to blend out foundations (mix it with a full coverage foundation and you have a wonderful BB foundation) or add oils for an extra nourishing boost. A must have staple.
